The Effects of Refining Operations on Quality and Quantity of Sterols in Canola, Soyabean and Sunflower Seed Oils

Sterols due to their properties might be considered as valuable products to be employed in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Vegetable oils, namely canola, soyabean and sunflower seed oils, contain considerable quantities of phytosterols, mainly β–sitosterol. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of refining operations, particularly deodorization on this valuable class...

Heterogeneity among strains of Mycoplasma granularum and identification of Mycoplasma hyosynoviae, sp. n.

Twelve filtrable, pleomorphic organisms isolated from swine joints and respiratory tracts had typical colonial and microscopic characteristics of mycoplasmas. They resisted penicillin and did not revert to cell wall-producing bacterial forms in media devoid of bacterial inhibitors. The morphological and growth characteristics of these mycoplasmas were similar to those described previously for M...

Comprehensive investigation of tobacco leaves during natural early senescence via multi-platform metabolomics analyses

Senescence is the final stage of leaf growth and development. Many different physiological activities occur during this process. A comprehensive metabolomics analysis of tobacco middle leaves at 5 different developmental stages was implemented through multi-platform methods based on liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. In total,...

Gracilariopsis persica, from Persian Gulf, Contains Bioactive Sterols.

Gracilariopsis Persica (Rhodophyta) is one of the most abundant algae, introduced newly from the Indian Ocean. In this study,   the main sterols of the algae have been isolated and identified. Separation and purification of the compounds was carried out on silica gel and sephadex LH20 column chromatography (CC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to obtain five pure compounds 1-5....

Sterols and Flavonoids of Lomatopodium staurophyllum

Background: The genus Lomatopodium Fisch. & C.A.Mey., belongs to Apiaceae family and contains one herbaceous species growing wildly in Iran. There are only a few papers about the chemical constituents of these plants. Here, we focused on the isolation and identification of the main flavonoid glycosides and sterols from the aerial parts of L. staurophyllum, which has not been previously reported...
